While reading the article, I noticed that it states that many students getting their undergraduate degree do not remember their first two years of college. One cause of this is that the faculty is focused on their own research then teaching the class. Students spend less time studying and more time socializing. Now, students spend 50% less time studying then past decade students.
This article got me to think in terms of my own study habits. I think that this article is right on target. I have a GPA of about 3.2 and do not spend as much time studying as I should. In the article, 50% of students never wrote more 20 pages and 32% never took a course where they had to read more than 40 pages a week. I can say that I have never done that amount of reading and writing while at school.
This article has opened my eyes in seeing that our society of students does need to put school first. Without an education, we can not do the important things that we need to accomplish in life. I am going to set goals for myself as a student and read the text books on a regular basis. Our schooling is being paid for so we might as well succeed.
